Aftermath Webisodes Show Flip Side of Tornado Hunters

November 06, 2015

In Aftermath, a new five-part webisode series from Tornado Hunters, Tornado Hunter Greg Johnson says "touring the destruction after a massive tornado hits a small town can be a very sobering experience." But he quickly adds this is only part of the story.

Aftermath examines the flip side of chasing when Tornado Hunters visits survivors in five different towns. Their lives have been touched by tornados in El Reno, Oklahoma; Pilger, Nebraska; Delmont, South Dakota; Vilonia, Arkansas and Tilston, Manitoba.

Survivors talk about their experiences, what they're doing now and how they're processing events. This includes the Tornado Hunters who relive the loss of storm chasing mentor and colleague Tim Samaras, his son Paul Samaras and meteorologist Carl Young, during the El Reno tornado in 2013.

Exactly two years to the day after being caught inside the largest twister in US history, the Tornado Hunters make their return to El Reno, Oklahoma. Greg, Chris and Ricky recount the harrowing events of that fateful day and pay tribute to beloved storm chaser Tim Samaras, whose death in that same, devastating four-kilometre-wide tornado changed storm chasing forever.

On June 16, 2014, the Tornado Hunters captured iconic images of a once in a lifetime event: twin EF 4 tornadoes! Tragically, one of these monster twisters gouged a path through Pilger, Nebraska, leaving the town in ruins. One year later the TH boys return to the small town and unearth an incredible first-hand story of survival.

On May 11, 2015, the Tornado Hunters visited Delmont, South Dakota the day after a rare early-morning twister ripped through the town. Four months later, the guys return to reconnect with Fire Chief Elmer Goehring, who takes them on an emotional and inspiring tour of a community determined to get back on its feet again.

On April 27, 2014, the Tornado Hunters had a dramatic “near miss” with a mile-wide tornado near the town of Vilonia, Arkansas. They TH guys were lucky - but the residents of this small town were not. In this installment of “Aftermath” - Vilonia residents Stanley Gordon Jr. and his father share their incredible story of surviving an EF 4 tornado that almost completely destroyed their entire community.

On July 27, 2015, the Tornado Hunters had front-row seats to one of the most spectacular tornadoes to ever touch down in Canada. Luckily, this massive twister caused very little damage and no lives were lost… but one family came incredibly close to losing everything.

All five webisodes will be uploaded to CMT Canada's Tornado Hunters show page after Sunday's brand new 9pm ET/PT episode.
